Everyone knows that drinking water is important, but, did you know that it is especially important to drink water following your chiropractic treatments?

Our bodies are made up of roughly 70% water, and our brains are made up of about 85% water. Lowered water consumption can lead to a decrease in mental and physical function, leading to possible headaches, dizziness and even fatigue. The connective tissues throughout your body are directly affected by how much water you drink on a daily basis. When you don't drink enough water, you could be losing strength and flexibility in your muscles, tendons and ligaments.
A chiropractic treatment (consisting of adjusting and soft tissue massage) releases tension that has been held for a long period of time. As a result, some toxins and nutrients that were held in those areas are now being released. Drinking water helps to flush those items through to your liver and kidneys to help remove the toxins from your body. Drinking water also prevents dehydration of the muscles as they are using fluids to rejuvenate. Increasing water intake after a chiropractic or massage treatment can decrease the likelihood of developing soreness.
What is the optimum amount of water a person should drink? You should drink half your weight in fluid ounces of water every day to keep the strength and flexibility in your tissues. For example, a person weighing 150lbs should drink 75 ounces of water per day.
Drinking water on its own can be boring, so add some flavor by adding fresh fruit, veggies and herbs.
Stay hydrated, and stay healthy!
